The short answer
A marketplace listing is not an authorization, a certification, or a traceability record. Before buying MOVs through any marketplace, verify the component the same way you would verify any new supplier — the listing itself proves none of it.
The buyer's checklist
- UL file number: ask for it, then verify it yourself in UL Product iQ. Check that the holder in the record is the company you are buying from (or that a multiple listing covers the seller), and that the exact model code is in the covered list.
- Certificate of Conformance and lot traceability: can the seller tie shipped parts to production lots and test records? If not, a field failure has no traceable root cause.
- An accountable seller: who is the legal entity standing behind the parts in North America if something fails — warranty, liability, corrective action?
- Price basis: is the quoted price EXW or delivered (DDP)? Marketplace headline prices are usually not comparable to a delivered, duties-handled quote until freight, duties and handling are added.
- Rating claims: surge and energy claims in listings are seller-written. Cross-check them against the manufacturer's own datasheet for the same model code.
- Samples first: buy samples, verify markings and electrical parameters, and only then discuss volume.
